In the last week of October, 2023, twelve artists met to paint at Rancho Santa Cruz and surroundings in Tumacacori, for the sixth annual “Plein Air on the Santa Cruz” retreat and workshop. The art is for sale and the exhibition runs through November 12 at Tubac Center of the Arts, 9 Plaza Road in Tubac, Arizona.

AUCTION SPRING 2021

“Caballito” was on display and sold at the Tubac Presidio State Park. Visitors enjoyed strolling through a beautiful desert garden displaying three-dimensional art by several local artists, and all sales proceeds were donated to the park.

Westmont College Ridley-Tree Museum of Art, in Santa Barbara, California, invited artists to submit a 5” x 5” art piece to be included in an online auction fundraiser for their 10 year anniversary. 5x5 Celebrating Ten Years will be on view December 3-18 2020. I created a watercolor depicting an imaginary line connecting California and Arizona with a U.S. flag, entitled “United States.”

Cast Your Dreams
into the Wine Dark Sea
Mixed Media Installation

25 inches wide x 6 feet tall x 12 inches deep

“Cast Your Dreams into the Wine Dark Sea” is a structural, semi-biographical poetic piece which will change as viewers interact with it. A roll of paper is fixed above a gilded frame, and stenciled phrases in English and in Spanish come into view as it is rolled down. These phrases by the artist encourage the viewer to add their dreams to the list. Words and phrases representing “dreams” can be added to the paper “canvas” as it is unrolled down and draped to the floor and into a velvet-lined box. An opportunity for a prize or two may appear, revealed as the word “winner” appears on the paper as it is unrolled. 

At the closing of the exhibit, the paper was unfurled to the floor in order to reveal written statements, reactions, drawings, etc., that participants had added for the duration of the exhibition.

In addition to the “Wine Dark Sea” exhibition at TCA, and the annual members award show at the Hilltop Gallery, several other works are in exhibitions at this time.

Selected to be part of the annual “Mujeres” Exhibition at Raices Taller in Tucson, is a watercolor portrait entitled “Ofelia Zepeda,” seen third from the left on the top row of this photo. Ofelia Zepeda is a Tohono O'odham poet and intellectual. She is Regents' Professor of Tohono O'odham language and linguistics and Head of American Indian Studies at The University of Arizona.

Exhibit at Rancho Santa Cruz Gallery

A collection of work by eleven local artists is now showing through August at the historic Rancho Santa Cruz of Tumacácori. The new owners of the property, Susan and Peter Berryman, are passionate about reviving the legacy of the ranch and its special place in the history of the region. The small gallery and gift shop utilizes the 100-year old parlor, and extends into the adjoining ranch dining room. A two-woman show at the Hilltop Gallery opened September 11th in Nogales, Arizona. The exhibition includes over 30 original paintings, watercolors of San Francisco by Virginia Vovchuk, and oils of the southwest by Pam Wedemeyer. The work of both artists celebrates a sense of place and captures unique light and perspectives, from the "Bay to Border." The show continues through October 5th.
