On March 30, 2019, I took home a javelina to paint. By the end of October, 50+ javelinas were finished and placed around the town of Tubac, Green Valley, and the Tucson Airport. My javelina, “Ms. Javelina Alebrije”, was named after the style of wooden animals painted near the town of Oaxaca in central Mexico. In fact if you look closely, you will see at the base, a lizard alebrije crawling out of a pot broken by the javelina while strolling through the desert. She was featured in the calendar section of the Phoenix Home & Garden magazine in October. In early November, she was auctioned off with 9 other javelinas, and has a proud new owner in the town of Tubac. In January 2020, Ms. J.A. visited Pima College campus in Nogales for a special event, promoting public art in Santa Cruz County. She was in front of the Lowe House at 14 Calle Iglesia (family photo) in old Tubac until early April when the remainder of the javelinas were auctioned off. The final image shows Ms. J.A. at her permanent home in a private garden in Tubac.
