Ricardo santos hernÁndez

Now proudly displayed in our home is an original oil painting by Nogales-born artist, Ricardo Santos Hernández. Ricardo (pictured left of Gabriel in the photo) had an exhibition of paintings, La Barda en el Corazón, during the month of April at the Hilltop Gallery in Nogales, where we had an opportunity to meet him and learn about his work. The piece is entitled Hawk Knows. It captures indigenous images from local cave paintings superimposed over a residential development and the peaks of San Cayetano. A red tailed hawk, seeing and knowing all, flies overhead. Many of Ricardo's paintings question urbanization and its inherent threat to wildlife and the natural landscape.
